Feline Diabetic Complications

All Diabetic cats have the potential to having medical complications. There are many things that could happen like an overdose of insulin. If your diabetic cat has an overdose it could cause Hyperglycemia which is a severe low blood sugar level in his body.


Warning Signs to keep an eye out for is:

  • Severe Weakness
  • Lack of coordination
  • Convulsions
  • Listlessness
  • Coma

If your cat does not get treated right away then there is a great chance of death.

There are a few quick things to do if your cat is experiencing one of the symptoms above:

  • Give your cat its normal daily food
  • If no response, or little response, put some corn syrup directly onto his gums by using your finger or if you have a syringe. Make sure you never place your finger into his mouth only on his gums.
  • Contact a Veterinarian right away and if it is late at night, there are 24 hour Veterinarian hospitals, look online or in your yellow pages and look for the words 24 Hour!
